Police Officer
Job Summary:
The Wellfleet Police Department is recruiting professional candidates for the position of Police Officer. Candidates must be a U.S Citizen, at least 21 years of age, have a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License and possess or be able to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry a Firearm.
Applicants must be able to work effectively with people from diverse, cultural, economic, and ethnic backgrounds, and must exhibit a strong belief in Community Policing.
Candidates with MPTC Full Time Police Academy and/or previous law enforcement experience will be given preference. Experienced MPTC/POST certified Police Officers are encouraged to apply for lateral transfer, and a lateral candidate’s current step will be considered in deciding starting pay.
Potential candidates must pass a battery of physical, psychological and drug tests, along with an extensive background check. In addition, the candidate must be able to complete the current POST Commission pre-employment requirements and stay in good standing with POST.
The position offers competitive salary and many fringe benefits. The starting salary range for new officers (FY2024 pay scale) is $69,036 to $77,036, based on education and experience. Higher FY2024 rates will apply for candidates beginning July 1.
Dispatcher
Job Summary:
The Wellfleet Police Department is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual for the position of Dispatcher. The Dispatcher will be responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, coordinating responses, and assisting with communication between officers and other emergency services. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively. Salary Commensurate with experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Dispatch police officers, fire, and emergency medical services as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records of calls and responses.
- Operate communication equipment, including radio, telephone, and computer systems.
- Provide support to officers and emergency responders with pertinent information.
- Monitor and log events in real-time.
- Assist with administrative duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in emergency dispatching, public safety, or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick decisions.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Proficiency in computer systems and software.
- Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Relief Dispatcher
Job Summary:
The Wellfleet Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of Relief Dispatcher. Training will be provided. Must be willing to work all shifts, days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Applicants must be able to type, multitask and set priorities. Position requires some clerical duties and data entry. Hourly rate $21.00-$26.00.
Community Service Officer
Job Summary:
The Wellfleet Police Department is currently seeking applicants for the position of Community Service Officer. The applicant must be able to perform a variety of routine non-critical public safety functions, among them enforcing municipal parking regulations, respond to citizen requests, community policing activities and traffic control. This is a seasonal, 40 hour a week position including weekends. The applicant must be a high school graduate, have current CPR/First responder certifications and work effectively with people from diverse, cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
